La Verne’s Online Undergraduate Programs Top Rated for 2nd Straight Year
For the second consecutive year, the University of La Verne’s online undergraduate programs have been recognized as the best in California by U.S. News & World Report.
In its recently released 2015 national ranking of Online Education, U.S. News rates La Verne’s online undergraduate offerings 18th best in the country, the third straight year La Verne has achieved a top 20 national ranking. And, for the second straight year, La Verne is No. 1 among California colleges and universities making the list of 297 institutions nationally that offer bachelor’s degree programs online.
“This ranking is a reflection of our institutional mission to offer a distinctive and relevant education,” said University President Devorah Lieberman. “It is also a testament to our dedicated faculty and staff who work daily to ensure that a quality college academic program and successful career preparation is attainable for all our students.”
For its 2015 undergraduate program rating, U.S. News ranked 288 colleges and universities (schools performing in the bottom 25 percent did not receive a published numerical ranking). Factors used to establish the ratings included student engagement (composed of best practices, graduation rates, assessments, class size, retention rates and time to degree deadline), faculty credentials and training (Ph.D. faculty, preparedness to teach distance learners, tenured faculty, faculty with a master’s degree or higher, and technical staff available to faculty), peer reputation (scores from a peer reputation survey administered for U.S. News by a market research firm), and student services and technology (student indebtedness, technological infrastructure, and support services).
U.S. News also released its inaugural rating of the country’s best online MBA programs. La Verne finished 93rd out of 196 institutions ranked, and finished fourth among California-based colleges and universities included on the list. Factors used in the ratings include student engagement, admissions selectivity (mean Graduate Management Admissions Test and Graduate Record Examination text scores, mean Grade Point Averages, experience, and acceptance rate), peer reputation, faculty credentials and training, and student services and technology.
“It is always gratifying when a third party validates one’s efforts,” said Steve Lesniak, Dean of Regional & Online Campuses. “Receiving this honor for the second year reaffirms the quality of our instructors, a balance of fulltime faculty and experienced professionals, the quality and diversity of our students, our small and highly interactive classes where the students really get to know their instructors and their fellow students, and a curriculum that is relevant to the workplace. All of this contributes to the success our students.”
First launched in 2000, La Verne’s online programs provide students the opportunity to receive a college education without the need of attending classes at a physical campus. The undergraduate degrees presently offered include a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Bachelor of Science degrees in Organizational Management and Public Administration. Graduate programs include a Master’s in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Child Development. Beyond the coursework, enrolled students receive support from university faculty and staff who are dedicated to the online programs.
For more than 30 years, U.S. News & World Report has compiled annual ratings of the country’s quality institutions of higher education. Because of the reputation it has established, its listings are utilized by many college counselors and admissions offices.
