so hot it boils.

And the steams spins
turbines that generate energy.

Looks like there's a little leftover
nuclear waste. No problem.

I'll just put it where nobody'll
find it for a million years.

What is Nuclear Waste?

Nuclear waste is the leftover, old stuff from making special power or big lights. It is very dirty and unsafe to touch, so people put it in strong, safe boxes to keep everyone healthy. [1, 2]

 

What is Nuclear Waste?

  • Leftover trash: It comes from power plants that make electricity.

  • Invisible danger: You cannot see or smell the bad part, but it is too hot and strong.

  • Special boxes: Grown-ups put it in deep, thick containers. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

 

How We Keep It Safe

  • Deep underground: Workers hide the heavy boxes far away under the ground or in thick concrete walls.

  • No touching: People and animals stay far away from it until it gets weak and safe many years later. [1]
