Godzilla, friend? Or for?
Godzilla is typically considered a foe, not a friend. This iconic monster is known for wreaking havoc and destruction in cities, particularly Tokyo.
Godzilla's reputation as a formidable adversary has been solidified through numerous films, starting with the 1954 original. However, some films and media portray Godzilla as:
1. A force of nature (e.g., "Godzilla" 2014).
2. A protector (e.g., "Mothra vs. Godzilla" 1964).
3. An anti-hero (e.g., "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" 2019).
But overall, Godzilla's mighty roar and destructive powers make it a formidable foe.
Has Godzilla ever helped humanity?
Yes, Godzilla has helped humanity in several instances:
1. Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964): Godzilla inadvertently saves humanity by battling and defeating King Ghidorah, an alien-controlled monster.

Godzilla's motivations and allegiance vary from film to film, but in general, he's portrayed as an antihero or protector of humanity:
-
Provoked by humans
In some films, Godzilla is depicted as an aggressor who's provoked by war, pollution, industrialization, the A-bomb, loud noises, bad smells, and humanity's disregard for the natural world.
-
Not motivated by predatory instinct
Godzilla doesn't usually eat people, and instead sustains himself on nuclear radiation and an omnivorous or piscivorian diet.
-
Temporal ally against greater threats
Godzilla and humanity can become temporary allies against greater threats, but they are essentially enemies due to the difficulty to co-exist.
-
Guardian of humanity
In the Monsterverse, Godzilla acts more as an antihero and protector of humanity, keeping far worse things from being birthed into the world.
-
Protecting from alien creatures
Godzilla's brute strength, physical size, and eternal frustration can sometimes protect us from alien creatures bent on destroying Earth.

Godzilla's motivations and intelligence change from film to film, and he doesn't make a special effort to protect humans. He's not usually motivated to attack by predatory instinct, and he doesn't usually eat people. However, he can turn against his human allies at any time.
Producer Shōgo Tomiyama has described Godzilla as a Shinto "God of Destruction" who lacks moral agency and can't be held to human standards of good and evil.

Godzilla's motivations and allegiance change from film to film, but he will sometimes fight alongside humans against common threats. For example, in Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla tries to stop humans from destroying themselves. Godzilla and the Titans are portrayed as protectors of Earth, rather than a threat to humankind.
However, Godzilla's motivations are not always clear. He doesn't make a special effort to protect human life or property, and he can turn against his human allies at any time. Godzilla is not usually motivated by predatory instinct, and he doesn't typically eat people. Instead, he eats nuclear radiation and other animals, such as large fish and cetaceans.
